From this elevated perch, the landscape unfolds in layers of green—coffee plants marching down the slopes, the highlands rising in the distance, and the Great Rift Valley visible on the horizon.

Elegant Design, Authentic Spirit

The lodge’s elegant colonial-style design pays homage to Tanzania’s past while providing all the comforts of the present. Whitewashed walls, wooden verandas, and flowering gardens create an atmosphere of timeless sophistication—a place that feels both luxurious and deeply connected to its surroundings.

A Tranquil Atmosphere

The well-manicured gardens invite leisurely strolls, with paths winding through indigenous plants and flowering shrubs. Whether you’re sitting in the garden with a book, watching birds flit through the trees, or simply breathing in the cool, fresh air, you’ll feel the stresses of the world melt away.

The Coffee Plantation

The lodge overlooks a working coffee plantation, and guests are welcome to explore its orderly rows. The sight of coffee cherries ripening in the highlands sun, the scent of blossoms in the air—these sensory details become part of your Kitela experience, connecting you to the land in a deeply authentic way.

The Veranda Experience

The private verandas are perhaps the most cherished feature of each suite. Here, with a cup of freshly brewed Tanzanian coffee or a soothing cup of tea, you can watch the day unfold. Farm-to-Table Dining Experience

At Kitela Lodge, dining is a celebration of the land’s bounty—a farm-to-table experience that connects you to the lush highlands with every delicious bite.

From Garden to Table

The lodge takes pride in its culinary philosophy: fresh, locally sourced ingredients, many of which come directly from the lodge’s own vegetable garden. Here, in the fertile soils of the Ngorongoro Highlands, vegetables ripen in the cool mountain sun, herbs release their fragrance, and the garden supplies the kitchen with the freshest possible produce.

This connection to the land means your plate reflects the true essence of the region: vibrant, authentic, and deeply satisfying.

A Culinary Journey

The talented chefs at Kitela weave these fresh ingredients into a delightful tapestry of flavors, offering a menu that combines international cuisine with traditional Tanzanian specialties. Every dish is prepared with care, ensuring that your time at the table is as memorable as your time on safari.

  • Breakfast might include fresh tropical fruits, eggs prepared to your liking, house-baked pastries, and Tanzania’s renowned coffee—the perfect start to a day of exploration.

  • Lunch offers lighter fare, ideal for a leisurely interlude between morning and afternoon activities.

  • Dinner is the highlight—a delicious, multi-course affair that showcases the best of East African cuisine alongside carefully prepared international dishes.

Where You’ll Dine

The elegant dining room provides a warm and inviting setting for meals, with large windows that frame the stunning views beyond. Yet on fine days, the real magic happens al fresco on the terrace, surrounded by lush gardens and the cool highlands breeze. Here, with the scent of flowers in the air and the landscape stretching before you, every meal becomes a feast for the senses.

Afternoon Tea and Evening Drinks

Between meals, the veranda beckons. Afternoon tea is a civilized ritual—a chance to rest, enjoy freshly brewed tea or coffee with light snacks, and simply take in the beauty of the highlands. Watch as the light shifts across the hills, listen to the birds, and let the peace of the place wash over you.

As the day winds down, the veranda transforms once more. Evening drinks are served as the sun sinks below the hills, painting the sky in shades of orange and gold. A sundowner in hand, you’ll reflect on the day’s adventures, share stories with fellow travelers, or simply sit in companionable silence, awed by the beauty before you.

At Kitela Lodge, dining is never just about food. It’s about connection—to the land, to the moment, and to the simple pleasures that make travel memorable.
